Officials tout jobs, outreach at open house on development around new NGA site in St. Louis

City officials touted the jobs and educational opportunities the new National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency facility will bring to north St. Louis at an open house Wednesday night for area residents who want to know about development plans.

Speaking to attendees at Gateway Middle School, Robert Cardillo, director of the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency, said he hopes to add about 600 more employees to the agency's current staff of about 3,100 after the new $1.7 billion facility opens in 2024 as he repeated his desire to build stronger ties with the community. The agency hopes to include community input as it chooses from designs by three bidding companies, with a final decision expected in September, he said.
